Do you really need a caddie in Scotland?
On blind shots, local knowledge and the one course where we'd insist.
On a course you can see, no. On a links where half the shots are blind and the wind changes the club by three, absolutely.
The Old Course is the one where we'd insist. Not for the yardages - for the lines. There are places on that golf course where the correct target is a hotel window four hundred yards away, and no app will tell you that.
Elsewhere, take one where you can and share where you can't. A caddie at Dornoch, Ballybunion or North Berwick will save you shots and give you the afternoon's best conversation.
