Our favourite pubs within 20 minutes of a great links course
Rules: no food menus longer than a page, a working fire, and somebody local at the bar.
A good post-round pub is a specific thing. It is not a gastropub. It is not a hotel bar. It has a fire, a short list of things worth drinking and at least two people who have been there since lunchtime.
There is one in Sutherland with a peat fire and no menu, where the owner will tell you exactly which holes at Brora you played badly. One in East Lothian where the golf talk stops the moment the football starts. One in Kerry where the golf club, the bar and the fish restaurant appear to be run by the same family.
We're not printing the names. Ask us on the trip - that's rather the point.
